Cultural collaborations strengthen relationship with Singapore

11 July 2018

The Turnbull Government has announced more than $100,000 for arts and cultural collaborations with Singapore.

The four projects will strengthen ties between the two countries and provide new opportunities for Australian and Singaporean arts professionals to create new works and share skills.

The projects were identified by the Australia Singapore Arts Group, which is driving a program of activities to enhance cultural relations and reach new audiences.

The initiatives include:

  • The Borak Arts Series Conference, a major Southeast Asian performing arts conference to be held in Adelaide as part of the OzAsia Festival in November 2018. This will be the first time the Borak Arts Series has been held outside of Southeast Asia.

  • The development of Dragon Ladies Don’t Weep, a new live performance work by Australian contemporary arts company Chamber Made in collaboration with Singapore’s CultureLink.

  • A Singaporean headline artist at Asia Pop Fest 2020, one of Australia’s most exciting new pop music festivals, held in Melbourne as part of AsiaTOPA 2020.

  • Two new community arts projects through In My Neighbourhood, an initiative supporting engagement between UNESCO Creative Cities in Australia and Singapore.

These initiatives build upon the relationship between Australia and Singapore that was formalised with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Arts and Culture in June 2015.
