JOINT RELEASE - Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing & Disability Services - Have your say on arts and disability

Have your say on arts and disability

24 September 2018

The Morrison Government is inviting stakeholders and the public to submit their views on the National Arts and Disability Strategy to improve access and participation in the arts for people with disability.

Minister for Communications and the Arts, Senator Mitch Fifield, said the consultation is an important step in identifying ways to maximise opportunities for people with disability to experience full inclusion in Australia’s cultural life.

“I strongly encourage the community to tell your stories. We want to hear how we can improve access to the arts, increase participation by people with disability and foster professional arts training and employment opportunities,” Minister Fifield said.

Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services, the Hon Sarah Henderson MP, said this is an important step to effect meaningful change for people with disabilities.

“The broader landscape has changed so much since the National Arts and Disability Strategy was first launched in 2009, particularly with the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme. This consultation presents an excellent opportunity to focus on the arts and culture, and what makes a community inclusive and accessible,” Assistant Minister Henderson said.

Anyone who wishes to submit their views can complete a survey, provide a written, verbal or recorded submission or attend a face-to-face consultation.
