NATIONAL MEALS ON WHEELS DAY
Senator Mitch Fifield, the Coalition’s spokesman for the Voluntary Sector, today recognised the thousands of volunteers across the country who support Meals on Wheels.
Nationally, 80,000 volunteers deliver food to 53,000 people every day across Australia. Meals on Wheels provides 15 million meals per year to Australians who cannot always cook for themselves.
People with disabilities, carers and the aged all benefit from the assistance offered by Meals on Wheels.
“I encourage individuals to consider volunteering to help out their local Meals on Wheels service,” Senator Fifield said.
“With 740 services across rural, regional and metropolitan Australia, Meals on Wheels volunteers are everywhere.
“The healthy, affordable home delivered meals provided by Meals on Wheels would not be possible without the generous contribution of their legion of volunteers,” said Senator Fifield.
